Jesus told His disciples in Matt. 17: 2oc that, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed that you could speak to the mountain and it would remove into the sea. Many have mistakenly taken this to mean that all you need is a little faith to accomplish great things. This is simply not true. Just before He said this to the disciples He had just rebuked their little faith/unbelief. (Matt. 17:19c-20b) He had explained the secret of the mustard seeds greatness to them earlier in (Matt. 13:31-32).
The seed had to be planted in the soil and watered, then it germinates and burst forth to soak up the nourishment of the sun and with frequent watering it grows into a plant big enough for the birds to rest in it. An initial measure of faith is given to all men (Rom. 12:3c). You must plant that initial amount of faith in the promises of God’s word. That is the soil that nourishes it to germination. The initial plant is the exercising of saving faith in Christ Jesus (Eph. 2:8) that says; “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”
We then must nurture it with prayer,(watering) that allows it to burst forth and soak up the light of life that comes from Jesus our Lord (Jn. 8:12). You then add more water by fasting and fertilize it with daily bible reading and study. All of a sudden you will realize that you have Mustard seed Faith. You can then walk in the promises of God with confidence. And the fruit of your labor will be enjoyed by you and seen by the world.
You will never be able to move Mt. Everest into the sea but you are promised the victory over the mountains of life. That is verified in (Phil. 4:6 & Gal. 6:9). What is the status of your mustard seed faith? Don’t let the devil trick you into settling for a little faith and missing the joys and victories of The peace of God that passes All human understanding (Phil. 4:7)
It is your choice, You can sustain life on the initial measure of faith or you can put forth the effort and enjoy mustard seed faith that translates into Great Faith. Don’t give up until you reach your desired level. You must remember that to whom much is given much is required.
