Video games are as popular as they have ever been. Multiple systems dominate the market creating a higher competition level making the games’ creators up the ante. In 2014, gamers will anticipate the release of many new games, including these four that everyone must have.
On February 25, Thief will be released to the public across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 4 and Xbox. The first-person and graphically violent adventure game is actually a reboot from a series that originally began in 1998, which later spawned three sequels and an expanded version of the original.
Players will once again take on the role of Garrett, a master thief who takes from the rich. In many ways, a dark version of Robin Hood, Thief is far more mature. This reboot of the series will surely create new fans as well as invite old ones to return.
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
On March 18, the popular video game character Snake will return in Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. Like the other games from the Metal Gear Solid franchise, we can expect lots of danger and the stealth strategy very familiar to fans of the series.
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes will have yet another in-depth story attached to the game. Each game in the series has taken place in a specific year, this one bringing us to 1975 following the events of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
Tom Clancy’s The Division
Acclaimed author Tom Clancy sadly passed away in October 2013. Still, video games inspired by his novels and real-world events are being released. The latest will be Tom Clancy’s The Division.
A terrifying scenario, the game takes place weeks after a lethal virus has been released in New York City causing anarchy throughout. Gamers will take on the role of members of The Division, an elite group of tactical soldiers setting out to keep the peace. This game will feature open-world play and include notable New York City landmarks. There has yet to be an official release date announced.
Minecraft: Xbox One Edition
A game recommended for players of all ages, Minecraft will be released sometime in March for the Xbox One. This is one of the most popular “sandbox” games of all-time; the term sandbox referring to games that take place in an open-world with few restrictions.
The game will have four modes: survival mode, adventure mode, creative mode, and multiplayer. Fans of the game from previous platforms will find this to, in some ways, be an expanded version. The graphics are of course improved and newly added features will make this the best model of Minecraft yet.
