A sibling’s passing is heartbreaking. Nothing like the passing of a parent, there is something different in the emotions experienced when losing a sibling. So when her sister passes before her time, Zelda is heartbroken.
In “Hello Again” Zelda played by Judith Ivey is the sister of Lucy Chambers played by Shelley Long. Lucy chokes on a chicken ball, and according to ancient mystics, if a loved one dies before her time, that person can be revived. Zelda finds a spell from a witch’s book and at the right moments when the stars are aligned just right, she cast the spell to bring her sister back from the dead.
When Lucy is revived, all the world is in an uproar as everyone wants to know how Lucy beat death. It’s not Lucy who has beat death however, it’s the spell Zelda cast that has beaten death. But the real test is keeping Lucy away from the press as everyone is trying to get to Lucy to find out what it takes to come back from the dead. Everyone except Lucy’s best friend that is.
While deceased, Lucy’s best friend Kim, played by Sela Ward has married her husband Jason played by Corbin Bernsen. Kim not only wants Lucy dead, she wants to challenge the fact Lucy ever died. Kim is jealous of all the attention Lucy is receiving in addition, she feels Jason is paying a little too much attention to the now returned from death, Lucy.
One of the best scenes in “Hello Again” is the scene between Zelda and Junior Lacey played by Austin Pendleton son of Kim’s ex-husband. Zelda is the semi wacky medium. She believes flies are transitioning souls that should not be killed and all sorts of weird things. So when she meets Kim’s step son, she does not hide her interest. Nor does he hide his interest. They are to strange souls sharing love.
In addition, another scene to be observed carefully is the scene when Lucy is brought back. She is brought back one year from the date of her death. She has on the same dress she was buried in. You can take it from there.
The movie is very entertaining. Kim is the gorgeous and she dresses immaculately in the movie. Shelley Long is cute as a button and dresses the part; not cute, but something similar to a prissy ‘Lady.” Corbin Bersen while he doesn’t do anything wrong is somewhat disliked for marrying Kim even though Lucy died.
The doctor Lucy falls in love with has the most gorgeous eyes. Those eyes alone are worth the entire time to watch the movie in addition to his accent. Kevin is played by Gabriel Byrne.
