“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” is a quote that sends chills through a man’s spine; or it should. When a man has decided to get rid of his wife and take off with another woman in addition to taking her son, Libby stops at nothing to get her child back in “Double Jeopardy.”
Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones make for great cat and mouse antics in this suspense. After being tried and convicted of murder, Libby (Judd) spends six years in jail. While there, she discovers the plot her husband and best friend worked out to get her out of the way. She keeps going by “sheer determination.” Her determination is to get her son Matty, played by Benjamin Weir and Spencer Treat Clark, back. Determined to revenge her conviction, Libby stops at nothing to retaliate and payback Nick, her husband, played by Bruce Greenwood.
When paroled, she is placed under the supervision of Travis her parole officer played by Tommy Lee Jones. Travis is the hard-nosed, “I don’t give a damn” parole officer until he also thinks Nick was never murdered and is still alive.
After Libby breaks parole and heads out in search of Nick, Travis forgets about all the other parolees under his supervision and heads out in search of Libby. Libby however is always one step ahead of him with nothing on her mind except getting her son back. Along the way she discovers Nick has done some horrible things.
Ashley Judd plays the role as she does with any of her roles. She always puts herself 100% into her role and simulates the part with such realism, viewers feel her emotions. She plays the victim in “Double Jeopardy” with such energy, every female viewer will hold a knife in anticipation of placing the dagger right where it hurts the most in a desire to kill Nick and his accomplice. There are just some things you do not do without suffering severe repercussion. One of those is taking a woman’s child.
Angie played by Annabeth Gish is the best friend who also is the other woman conspiring with Nick. Both have been plotting against Libby for some time. When Libby calls Angie after not hearing from her for months she discovers Nick is still alive and living with Angie and her son, “The Heat is On.”
