There is a bond shared that should not be crossed when standing before a minister and repeating the marital vows. To stand in the presence of the Lord and vow your commitment to one person for life should mean something. Today, those vows are said with little or no regard to your faith. More and more people are standing before God, committing themselves to one person but within weeks, those words have been forgotten. Some have taken them and within weeks found another person they are more interested in. So is the case in “Above Suspicion.”
Christopher Reeve plays the role of Dempsey Cain. Cain is paralyzed after a shooting. He discovers his brother Nick played by Edward Kerr is involved in an affair with his wife Gail played by Kim Cattrall. Gail is very you, gorgeous and rethinking her marriage to a handicapped husband. She figures she is still young and much to active to be tied down to an invalid. She is growing more and more irritated with the burden of caring for Dempsey.
Dempsey is very aware of the affair. He begins to plot killing his spouse and brother. He uses his paralysis to his advantage in the plot. When planning the way he will handle their demise, he schemes by telling them he no longer wishes to live, He advises the two of how he plans his suicide so as to leave no suspicion on them and so Gail will receive the insurance with no problem.
When everything is completed, One officer, Alan Rinehart played by Joe Mantegna, is suspicious of Dempsey and tries in every way possible to prove he was instrumental in murdering his spouse and brother. His attempts fail.
The plan works excellently. There are scenes that appear so real, viewers will wonder how the action was carried out with no injuries occurring. However, there are simply some things you cannot believe on television; and why should you. That’s what television is all about; entertainment and nothing more. ..
Christopher Reeve will never be forgotten. He was one of those stars viewers cherished. His character and demeanor was of such fans grew to love him and with each passing year, his memory is cherished even more.
As always, we enjoy just watching Kim Cattrall. She captured the heart of America in “Mannequin.” There was something about the way she said those lines when trying to manipulate the gods into get her out of the arranged marriage to a ‘camel dung dealer.’
