At some point, many of us run out of options for Mother’s Day gifts for our sweet mommas. It seems they either have everything or something we have gifted to them in the past sits unused on a forgotten shelf or inside a drawer, never to be seen again. Gift ideas are a dime a dozen but thinking inside the box is a concept that is worth exploring.
Harken back to the olden days when your mom gave you socks and underwear for your birthday; you were embarrassed but accepted the gift because it was something you needed. This thought process is now thrown back at you when you purchase gifts for your mom, except your mom probably didn’t buy you Salad Shooters and George Foreman grills.
Better than a Salad Spinner, cashmere socks rock the world. They are soft, expensive, but oh so worth the extra cash to make your momma happy. As our mothers get older, they seem to value comfort so much more than in their youth. Nothing suits a lady’s feet better than silky and satiny socks.
Great pillow cases are a luxury and most likely something that your mom hasn’t spent too much on in the past. Embroidered cases from Garnet Hill or Horchow are perfect gifts; throw in some feather pillows and you will win the child-of-the- year award. Livening things up with a pillow case emblazoned with your face on it is perfect…that way mom won’t ever escape your presence.
We all have to bathe and our moms always enjoy a good soak in the tub. A cheap basket (that mom can use for later) is perfect to include yummy bath supplies in. Soaps, scrubs, and lotions are perfect. Include a relaxing CD and a bottle of wine will round out a perfect gift.
It may be a bit off the wall but moms love poems and personalized gifts no matter the age of their child. It shows personal love and thankfulness for all our moms have done for us. Most everyone can attempt a poem that expresses devotion. Write it, print it, and frame it. It’s a gift that is much more important than a foot spa.
It doesn’t take much take much to make our mothers smile, but thinking of their happiness is a class all in its own. They expect a Clapper or a knife set but keeping the gifts small and thoughtful are most important.
