This past weekend, Atlanta’s own Monica Hargrove brought home the gold medal as a member of the U.S. 4×400 Relay team at the IAAF World Indoor Championship in Sopot, Poland.
The Team USA 4X400 entry was dominant all weekend as they ran a 3:29 in the semifinals, and won the gold by completing the finals in 3:24.
The former Georgetown All-American couldn’t be more excited about the result.
“My faith has kept me in this sport. I know that I’m capable of many more great performances and a gold at this year’s world championships in the 4×400 has me even more fired up about this upcoming outdoor season,” explains Hargrove.
The 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championship is the 2nd World Championship for Hargrove, as in 2006, she won a silver medal as a member of the 4×400 meter relay team. The IAAF World Indoor Championship is the second, after the Olympic Games, ranking athletic event in the world. This year’s event served as host to 160 countries and over 1500 athletes.
Hargrove has an impressive resume as an American track star. but what she is doing off the track may be even more important.
Hargrove also works as a model and spokesperson for Under Armour, while building a successful foundation, Strength IS Beauty.
She recently launched her Strength IS Beauty Project. The mission of Monica’s Strength IS Beauty Project encourages and motivates strong women from all backgrounds and cultures to embrace the idea that they are beautiful inside and out.
Hargrove is happy to represent the woman who is not only strong physically, but mentally as well. Monica believes that Strength IS Beauty and is determined to show the world that a woman can be Strong and Beautiful at the same time. That’s important in this day when women and young girls are constantly bombarded with questions about their image and body type.
Hargrove is a prime example that hard work does pay off.
“It’s such a great feeling to see what you’ve worked so hard to achieve come to fruition,” adds Hargrove, now back training in Atlanta.
Per Monica Hargrove, coming up this May:
May 10, 2014, Monica and her Strength IS Beauty Project will serve as ambassadors for
