Miley Cyrus has been hospitalized Tuesday, April 15th, with a serious allergic reaction to antibiotics. According to reports on Cyrus’s website, as well as several media outlets, Cyrus has been admitted to the hospital and ordered to rest just hours before she was to appear on stage for a concert at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. Earlier this month, the star had to cancel her concert in Charlotte, North Carolina, on April 7th, due to complications with the flu. Both concerts are part of the star’s Bangerz tour.
Cyrus has tweeted about her latest hospitalization, posting a picture of herself in a hospital bed, along with the comment, “Mr. Octopussy & some amazing Drs are taking good care of me,” on the evening of April 15th. Over the past several days, Cyrus has also tweeted about her complications with the flu, with Cyrus tweeting, “why is this cough coming back #sorethroat #feelingnobueno,” on April 14th.
At this time, it is not known if future tour dates will be affected by the star’s illness.
While antibiotics are not normally prescribed for the flu since it is a viral infection, antibiotics can be prescribed if a bacterial infection later develops. While uncommon, anyone can develop an allergy to a prescription, or over-the-counter medication, at anytime.
At this time, neither the hospital nor Cyrus have provided additional information about the exact symptoms that Cyrus has experienced with her allergic reaction to antibiotics. According to the respected Mayo Clinic, symptoms of an allergic reaction to drugs such as antibiotics can include the following reactions:
- Hives or other skin rash
- Scratching and Itching
- Increased temperature and fever
- Difficulty breathing or catching one’s breath
- Edema and swelling, especially around the eyes, face, throat, mouth or tongue
- A potentially life threatening reaction known as anaphylaxis, which requires immediate medical attention.
