Michigan scenery can absolutely be breath taking during the every changing season. Hiking trails gives a person a chance to enjoy nature up close and personal. Or in my case, I get a chance to shoot photos of wildlife which is my favorite pastime.
Maple River State Game Area
The Maple River State Game Area is one of my favorites and is located in Gratiot County, Michigan. There are multi-use trails all around the Maple River and Wetlands. The trails are easy to hike. I have spotted numerous wildlife including Sand Hill Cranes, Herons and American White Tail Deer.
Lake Lansing-North: Blue Trail
The Lake Lansing-North: Blue Trail is located in Ingham County, Michigan. The trail is mainly a footpath which means there is some difficulty in the hiking area. The trail is a little less than four miles and is surrounded by woods and wetlands which are great for wildlife viewing.
Lake Lansing-North: Green Trail

Fitzgerald County Park: Ledges Trail
The Fitzgerald County Park: Ledges Trail is located in Eaton County, Michigan. The Ledges Trail is a foot path but easy to hike. The area is around the Grand River and the sandstone cliffs which is a great view. The trail is around two and half miles round trip.
Keehne Environmental Area
The Keehne Environmental Area is located in Eaton County, Michigan. This trail is easy to walk through; there are boardwalks across ponds which allow you to see aquatic life and take in the peaceful scenery.
Lincoln Brick County Park: Deer Run/Tallman Loop
The Lincoln Brick County Park: Deer Run/Tallman Loop is located in Eaton County, Michigan. The trail is just over two miles long and is a foot path. The area is around the Grand River and has sand stone cliffs to view.
There are numerous other trails in Michigan; these are just a few that are centrally located. Of course, if you are planning to head north further the Charlevoix County area has beautiful trails ranging from easy to challenging. For example, there is Mt. McSauba Recreation Area which is around Lake Michigan and is beautiful. So, take a day, plan a hike and remember your camera and binoculars. There is always wildlife to view.
