Many more people in North America became familiar with Mercer University with a March Madness run by its men’s basketball team.
An upset of national powerhouse Duke will allow that to happen.
Now you can help the Mercer athletic teams and in particular their tennis program reach unprecedented heights.
Mercer Athletics is holding its biggest fundraiser of the year on April 5. It is called the Big Bear Event and consists of a drawdown for $10,000 along with a silent auction.
Mercer men’s and women’s tennis coach Eric Hayes says this is an important time for Mercer sports and student athletes.
“Non-revenue sports like tennis are driven by funds raised and there has not been much done with Mercer Tennis in the past. Our goal is to have a nationally ranked program here at Mercer just like some other sports have (Men’s Basketball, Baseball and Men’s Golf) and we must raise money to enhance our budget.”
Supporters can help by purchasing a ticket to the drawing for $100.
If you would like to buy a ticket please go to mercerbears.com and click on the “Big Bear Event” banner. Please list “Eric Hayes” where it asks who referred you so tennis gets credited with the money.
Hayes says there are other other ways to help.
“Another way to help is to donate something to the silent auction. Items can be anything and you get a tax credit as well. Items can be anything like weekends at beach house, gift certificates, tickets to college or professional events.”
Hayes says any help would be so appreciated as they continue to turn this program around. GO BEARS!
