Something as simple as an edible flower inside an ice cube can make a drink look so exotic and delicious. There are many ways to make ice without having to serve ordinary cubes. You could make striped ice cubes, for example, by tinting water with food coloring drops, and then putting small amounts in the cube tray at a time. When one color has frozen, pour in a bit of another color, and you’ll create eye-catching stripes on the ice cubes. For Halloween, you can freeze small, plastic bugs, right inside the cubes. But for a refreshing summer drink, do away with the traditional ice altogether, and offer your guests – or your family – something much more desirable. Melon ball ice cubes are not ice at all, but they serve as such, while making most any drink even more tempting.
Melon balls are a cooling treat for summer, but when you drop them down in drinks, you create a spectacular drink. Whether that drink is water, lemonade, or another, the melon balls will keep it cold as well as offer it a unique and delicious flavor. You will, of course, need a melon baller. You can find one online at most any place that sells silverware and you can also find one at a discount department store in your home town.
A melon baller is available in more than one size; choose a fairly small one to make the unusual ice cubes. Ball the chosen melon(s), put them in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and slide the fruit into the freezer until ready to serve drinks, or for at least a couple of hours.
Some of the melons that you can ball up and use as ice include cantaloupe, honeydew, Persian melon, and watermelon. Make an assortment of melon ice cubes or use just one type of melon. You can make watermelon-flavored water or water with assorted melon flavors. Even though the melon ice doesn’t fit well with every drink, it looks great in a clear or light-colored drink, and tastes good in water, lemonade, Kool-Aid, some teas, and drinks like Sprite and 7UP.
Melon balls aren’t the typical ice cubes so your guests or your family will be quite surprised. Not only do the melon balls add color to clear drinks, and flavor to chosen drinks, but they don’t melt in any drink!
