Pepe Mel may return to Spain after his short lived career in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion. Mel, who was released by West Brom after failing to meet seemingly strong expectations in England is attracting interest from various Spanish clubs including Espanyol and Malaga. Both clubs are also interested in Rayo Vallecano’s Paco Jemez although this rumour was been dispelled to a certain extent due to both club current financial situations. Paolo Sousa, who won the Israeli title this year with Maccabi Tel Aviv is another candidate for Espanyol although Mel is rumoured to be favourite for the Catalan side due to him being free. Espanyol fans have expressed displeasure with the departure of Javier Aguirre whom they were very fond of and the rumour of Mel being appointed has only increased this displeasure due to his recent La Liga record. Sousa, being a former Perico, all be it very briefly is the fans favourite but it is now said that Mel may have already entered contract negotiations with Espanyol.
