Now that the American Idol XIII Top 13 has been decided upon by your votes, as well as three wildcards decided upon by the judges, it’s time for full introductions! Sebastian, Florida nurse tech Kristen O’Connor first auditioned in Atlanta, Georgia, at which point we also met Emily Piriz. She described her profession as something that makes her feel like she’s “doing something important” and that she feels like “a light in someone’s day” when helping her patient. Performing a soulful rendition of Billie Holiday’s “Good Morning Heartache”, she received three enthusiastic yeses from Harry, Jennifer, and Keith and successfully moved on to the first Hollywood round. She next appeared performing Jessie J’s “Nobody’s Perfect”, accompanying herself on an acoustic guitar, and later performing Katy Perry’s “Unconditionally”. The latter of the two performances brought her into the Top 30, and then the judges decided to keep her when that Top 30 transitioned into a Top 20. On Rush Week night, she performed Adele’s “Turning Tables”, but did not make it based on America’s votes. Thankfully for her, she was called up by the judges to perform for one of three coveted wildcard spots. Nervously reprising “Unconditionally”, she was chosen to move on into the finals as the second to last member of the Top 13.
Prior to Kristen’s appearing on American Idol, she had a YouTube channel upon which she occasionally uploaded covers of popular songs. These covers include an acoustic rendition of Imagine Dragon’s mega-hit “Radioactive” and Rihanna’s “Stay” — the second of which was performed inside of a UCF parking garage!
