There are a seemingly endless stream of movies coming out that are being adapted from Marvel Comics, some of them are under the Disney others are under the Sony umbrella, but nonetheless the movies just keep coming, and people keep going to see them. (screencrush) Some of the movies are huge successes, such as The Avengers, others not so much…right Hulk? (indiewire) With all of the characters to choose from, some seem to get pushed ahead of others, and some get opportunities but for one reason or another they just don’t quite seem to connect with the fans, as a former comic nerd myself there are some stories that I think should be given another crack at theaters. (totalfilm) My favorite characters, luckily, have become one of the more successful franchises in comic book movie history, those characters being the X-Men. (hitfix) We’ve been lucky to see some of the greatest characters in comics make it to the big screen, even if two of them did come off terrible in the one film that “never really happened” in the Marvel universe, Deadpool and Gambit. (rottentomatoes) Luckily we’ve been promised better versions of both characters down the road, although the announcement of Channing Tatum as Gambit has many underwhelmed, although I’ll give it a shot before labeling it a failure. With so many characters getting a second, and third, and in some cases fifth chances to make a go at being immortalized on film, I would love to see another run by the dark, dangerous, vigilante anti-hero take to the screen once more. (wikipedia) The Punisher hasn’t really gotten over with audiences on the big screen, but he’s one of the more popular characters in Marvel Comics, but the three attempts at films just couldn’t quite catch the audiences attention. (wikipedia) While it wasn’t a massive box office hit, the Thomas Jane version of The Punisher is actually the best of the three attempts so far, if there were another one made Jane would be the overwhelming fan favorite to take the role back, hopefully in a direct sequel to his previous run as Frank Castle. (screenrant) The one problem I think people have with The Punisher as a movie is that his stories don’t really work for a long format, if they went with someone other than Jane in the role Marvel could make an “origin story” movie with the intention of turning it into a television series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Has become a hit and for the right network The Punisher could do this as well. (yahoo) I would love to see Frank Castle on a network like AMC, a gritty, dirty, violent series, something they’ve done with The Walking Dead, it could be an amazing marriage, let’s hope something happens.
