A new comic book film is coming, and this one is another fringe comic from an independent label. The book is “Superior” and the author is well know, a gentleman by the name of Mark Millar. The “Superior” comic is about a 12 year old with multiple sclerosis who gets one wish from an alien monkey and chooses to be a superhero called Superior, a character with powers similar to Superman. Soon, the boy learns the monkey is a demon and he has to sell his soul to keep the body. Fox has optioned the “Superior” comic to develop.
This is just the latest project for Mark Millar, who has kept busy in Hollywood, including becoming a consultant for Fox when it comes to their comic book movies, including The Fantastic Four and X-Men universes. Here is a look at Millar’s movie output based on his books.
The comic book for “Wanted” had a lead character who was drawn to look like rap star Eminem. However, when the movie came out, things changed and director Timur Bekmambetov chose to case James McAvoy in the title role. The story is about a frustrated man named Wesley who is tired of his life and then learns one day that his father was a very powerful super villain and assassin. In the comics, the world is without superheroes because they lost when all the villains teamed up. However, at the point of the movie, the villains are once again unable to work together.
Next up was a Millar work in a world where there are no, nor have there ever been, any real superheroes. Dave Lizewski is a kid who is a big comic book fan. One day he decides to put on a costume and start fighting crime. His first time out, he is almost killed, but when he meets two other vigilantes, Big Daddy (Nic Cage) and his daughter Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz), he gets some training and they all set out to bring down a major crime boss. The book and movie were very controversial thanks to the violence by teenagers. There have been two movies in the “Kick-Ass” series.
“The Secret Service”
Matthew Vaughn, the man who directed the first “Kick-Ass” movie, as well as “X-Men: First Class,” is directing Mark Millar’s next movie, “The Secret Service.” The movie stars Colin Firth, Michael Caine and Samuel L. Jackson in a story about the world’s greatest secret agent and his derelict nephew he has taken in to train. “The Secret Service” hits theaters in October 2014.
