Say the name Mario and everyone thinks of the same little man in his red shirt and hat with blue overalls. Most people under 50 years old have played a Mario game or watched someone play one. He is one of the most memorable characters of all time.
Mario is great for many reasons, and he is my favorite gaming character as well. With over 200 titles accredited to him, he is the hardest working character in video game land. He is an amazing influence for children and an inspiring character for those who work in the gaming industry.
It all started in 1981 when a little plumber tried to save a princess from a Donkey that captured her. Mario received his own game in 1982 when Mario Brothers was released. The creator, Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto, was just 23 years old when he joined a little known company named Nintendo. They named Mario after the owner of the warehouse that Mario was created in and the legend that has been through countless childhoods had begun.
One of the great things about Mario is his friends. Even if they are enemies in one game, they can be racing buddies in the next, making Mario the most forgiving character as well. He is an amazing icon for kids because he constantly has to work hard to attain his goals, and he is unfailingly appropriate for all age gamers.
Mario has also because the face, or franchise player for Nintendo. If they are going to make a change gaming or platform, Mario usually leads the way. If they can bring the legions of Mario’s fans along, they know good things will follow.
Mario definitely gets my picks as not only the best gaming character but the character with the most game.
