This article will explain how to dice a tomato. Dicing a tomato is the process of taking a whole tomato, and turning it into small cut pieces. Although it sounds simple enough to figure out, there is a skill to dicing a tomato.
The stem and root must be removed. The stem will be a hard section in the top of the tomato, and this can be cut out with a knife or specialized tool. The root is also cut out with a knife or specialized tool. With the stem and root removed the tomato now gets cut in half. Place the tomato with the root side down, and cut from the top in the middle all the way through. Be careful to not cut your fingers while slicing the tomato. One way to keep your fingers from getting cut by the knife is to curl them away from the knife while moving the knife against your knuckles.
After the tomato has been cut in half, the tomato is then sliced in one eighth inch slices. Place on half of the tomato with the cut side down. Take a knife and make the slices going horizontal through the tomato. Repeat the same process with the other half of the tomato.
After the tomato has been sliced, it now can be processed further. Slice the slices with one eight inch cuts. After all slices have been sliced, there will be one more step. Slice the remaining slices in a cross making one eighth slices to make them small dices.
Diced tomatoes is a good ingredient for many dishes. I used them for many taco bell style foods such as a burrito and taco. I hope you enjoy making diced tomatoes for your dishes.
