If you have acne, you are so completely not alone. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, nearly 85 percent of people have acne in their lives at some point in time. What they do not realize is maybe they keep getting acne because of the products they are using. Not too many people know about the dangerous and harmful ingredients in commercial brand acne products and how they are actually making their skin worse. Believe me, it is not just diet and hormones that cause acne. I want to educate people on what products to avoid and how changing their diet even a little bit can make a major impact on the skin.
Commercial brand acne products contain a lot of ingredients that dry out your skin too much and damage it instead of healing it. Products such as Proactiv contains benzoyl peroxide which is used to dry out the acne on your face. While it does its job, the chemical is so harsh that it can cause your face to be itchy and cracked with discomfort because the ingredients are so drying. The ingredients are just way too abrasive for the skin and an cause it to thicken and crack over time. Use brands such as Yes to Carrots or Andalou Naturals which do not contain any of these harsh ingredients and are actually made with planet extracts and vegetables. I noticed a huge difference in my skin’s appearance when I switched from using regular face creams and cleansers to all natural. I have much less acne now and my skin feels softer and more supple.
Eat healthy in order to have clear skin for life. The essential antioxidants your skin needs are beta-carotene, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins A, C, and E. They are what keep your skin looking young and they provide moisture to the outer layer of skin which helps keep your skin smooth and eliminate toxins. Sweet potatoes and carrots are rich in beta-carotene and fish and eggs are full of omega 3s. Vitamins C, E, and A can be found in most leafy green vegetables and fruits. Some foods to avoid that tend to dry out the skin and cause acne are any foods that are high glycemic such as pizza or white bread. Anything high in sugar such as soda or candy can lead to a rise in insulin levels which can cause out breaks of acne. If you like these foods, don’t eliminate them completely from your life. Just cut back little by little and see how this may have an impact on your skin in a positive light.
Remember to balance out your hormones using natural pills and foods to enhance your skin’s beauty. Hormones need to be balanced and regulated in order for them to function properly throughout your body. I take maca powder which has hormone balancing properties and has been used in the Andes mountains in Peru for thousands of years. I take a tablespoon with honey or in my fruit shakes and mix it right in. If you feel that your hormones are out of whack, take vitamin D in capsule form. A deficiency of vitamin D in the body has been known to throw hormones out of balance. When your hormones have calmed and regulated, you will start to see a vast improvement in your skin.
