Choose Peace Over Anger
How easily the human being becomes angered. At one time or another, we are challenged by something we heard said, perhaps about ourselves, or about others. Our response could be an exchange of harsh words against the party making the statement, or maybe even flying into an uncontrolled rage. The bottom line, however, is still the same. We have very little difficulty falling into that most terrible of character traits, at times–unrestrained anger. My experience has taught me that the only water one can use to douse these flames now spreading is Humility. Wisdom would dictate that in the name of Peace, it more often pays to take that road of humbleness. Sincere humbleness. Keep in mind, lowering your head at times only succeeds in putting yourself in control of your inner world and allowing you to perceive the outcome of maintaining this anger. Often anger has been shown to lead to health problems and high blood pressure for someone with a weak heart is not a route you would want to go.
Other more spiritual reasons to avoid anger is that it is not very far away from idol worship. If we are to believe that there is a God running this world and that nothing happens without his permit, then this too is Only a test. It is difficult to have God in mind when you fall into anger because you are now serving something else. Something foreign. Your evil inclination has succeeded, in such a case, to take your mind off of your Creator and to follow his dictates, in your anger now being within his (Satan’s) control. For what reason do we have to maintain anger inside of us. We must learn this trait that God instilled in us called patience. Is not God patient with us when we sin, not exacting immediate retribution upon us which would only be just and fitting. Therefore, in order to learn how to avoid anger and to cultivate this divine attribute, forgiveness really must be a part of the goals we as humans truley share–An ability to emulate our Creator.
The following Haiku is an attempt to portray this very idea. The idea that we have the power to control ourselves. And by following what we know to be right and just, take this opportunity to turn and Anger & Hatred into Love & Unity among ourselves and among all free men. True freedom is to serve God, and not to continue perpetuating our own shortcomings.
