Have you heard of the new L’Oreal home haircolor kit called Mousse Absolue? It claims to be a no-mix, reusable haircolor, and I had to check it out. Our local Rite Aid sells Mousse Absolue for $14.99, which is a bit pricier than most home haircolor kits. However, if it could be used for more than one application, I thought it would be well worth the price.
Most haircolor kits require mixing a color and an activator together prior to application. Once mixed, any leftover solution must be discarded. L’Oreal has apparently developed an ingenious way to automatically mix the color ingredients, and to allow leftover haircolor to be used at a later time. The mousse comes in a container that appears to have two cylinders packaged together. When the pump applicator is placed on the top of the container, a foam haircolor is dispensed by the pump. Perhaps the two substances mix together just prior to being expressed by the pump, making the unmixed leftovers reusable—–but I’m no chemist and that is just a guess on my part.
I admit, I was skeptical—-but I’m not anymore. This L’Oreal haircolor is a cinch to use. Shake vigorously, switch the sealed top to the pump top, and you are ready to color. The foam is easily dispensed, and is left on the hair for thirty minutes. I tried this haircolor for a “root touch-up,” and it worked very well. It is less messy than many other types of home haircolor since the foam doesn’t drip or run. It covers gray hair with a rich color. The fact that I have haircolor left in the bottle for a later use is a real bonus. I only wish that I could tell how much haircolor remains in the container, but the opaque design makes that impossible to discern. The information provided by L’Oreal on the packaging estimates that one box of Mousse Absolue will provide enough color for two full short-hair applications, one full and one touch-up for medium length hair, or one full application for long hair. This haircolor would be especially good for those who like to do small touch-ups on a regular basis.
I was surprisingly impressed with L’Oreal Mousse Absolue. The process is simple and the color result is excellent. I will definitely be using this product again.
