Enjoying a fine wine with great company is one of the many things that make life enjoyable. After a hard day filled with stress, duties, and responsibilities, is there anything needed more than to enjoy a glass of wine with a friend or a special someone? If you’re traveling through or live near any cities in central Pennsylvania, I would recommend you consider going to one of these wine bars.
1) Tuscarora Mountain Winery- This winery is family-run, located in downtown Chambersburg, and offers a good selection of wines made from a variety of fruits. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, will let you taste wines if you buy, and this winery does host different events from time to time. The prices are extremely reasonable, and they offer many different wines that are made from fruit that is in season. This is a great winery to go to if you’re looking for a $15 bottle to give as a gift or take to a party.
2) Adams County Winery- If you are a Civil War buff then this is the winery for you! Located at 25 Chambersburg St. in Gettysburg this winery offers all of the charm of this tourist town. The wines range in price, so a buyer could leave with a $14 bottle of wine or a bottle that cost them over $30. This winery does offer more than Tuscarora as it offers dinners, tours, classes, and even gives you the opportunity to buy your own home wine making kit. The quality wine, engaging events, reasonable prices, and charming Civil War town make this a must stop on your way through Gettysburg.
3) The Vineyard at Hershey- If quality is what you’re after this is the place for you. The Vineyard at Hershey is open Wednesday to Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM. They offer a wide selection of whites and reds, and their staff is extremely knowledgeable and courteous. There aren’t enough good things to say about this great establishment, but next time you are near Middletown, PA stop by the Vineyard at Hershey for a wine tasting. If that doesn’t entice you they also have a brewery there as well!
4) Waltz Vineyards Estate Winery- Let me say this I did not put any mediocre wineries on this list. If you are a hardcore wine taster, this is your place. They have many finer wines for you to taste or buy at Waltz. The experience in their wine tasting room is unparalleled in terms of quality and service. Be prepared to pay a little more if you travel out to Manheim or Littiz to visit Waltz, but if you are a hardcore wine fanatic it may be worth the drive. One unique offering this winery has is the opportunity to have a picnic in their wine vineyard, and if you’ve seen the view from their vineyard you will understand that it is well worth the trip out to visit Waltz Vineyards Estate Winery.
