I just received my Samsung Galaxy S5 via UPS delivery yesterday after returning home from work. I was excited because I thought it would arrive much later considering when I first pre-ordered it weeks ago, it was already on backorder. The UPS delivery guy even seemed excited to deliver it and we traded chit-chat regarding how hard it is nowadays to even function without our cell phones. I confided that I lost my previous phone for a few hours and didn’t even know important numbers by heart to dial to complete my everyday interactions! I’ve since recorded those numbers in my planner should I ever run into that issue again, God forbid.
The anticipation of discovering my new phone’s capabilities was heightened further as I had to wait until the phone was fully charged after assembling before I could turn it on. I know some people skip this step but I am very meticulous when it comes to this sort of thing because this phone is an investment in my life that I don’t take lightly. Technology is indeed a god-send but who would have ever thought that we would come to rely on it so much for pretty much everything? Once I turned it on, I was immediately awed by the vibrant colors and the clarity of the screen. It reminded me of the vibrant colors when I went to the movie theatre to see movies in 3D. I was mesmerized.
I did take note, however that the phone was indeed larger than my previous Galaxy S3. I would prefer to go smaller, rather than larger but as I continued to uncover the phones other features, I decided I could live with a slightly bigger size. I loved the new ringtones that the phone housed because I’d grown tired of all the old used ones. It’s frustrating to me to be in public and someone else’s phone rings with the exact ringtone as mine and I mistake it for my phone. I loved that the phone offered apps that were solely offered for the S5 and when I got into the app menu and discovered the health apps, I was transfixed.
Like many other people, I vowed that I would do better with my health this year – you know, eat right, exercise more, drink more water, get more sleep, etc., etc. I have been too – I started biking at a local park after work, drinking more water, doing Zumba and eating better. When I realized that the S5 has a heart rate monitor that works in conjunction with its health apps, I was so happy! You just put your finger over a crevice on the back of the phone and hold it there and it takes your heart rate – Sweet! Now I don’t have to have all these extra items to bring with me on my exercising rounds. Just my phone will suffice! I had already been listening to Pandora on my phone when I exercise, but now I can listen to music via the health app on my phone instead.
I love the fingerprint scanner feature that adds extra security to my phone. Since no two fingerprints are the same, I can feel secure in locking my phone and not have to worry about my password being hacked (not that I have anything on my phone worthy of hacking, but just saying). The camera on the phone is my pride and joy because of the enhanced LED and the Dual-Action camera that allows you to take pics via the rear and front-facing camera simultaneously, I am in love. I use my camera a lot to snap pics on my bike rides while on scenic routes, to snap pics at work of culinary masterpieces, at home with my family and of course to upload pics on Facebook especially of sights around town that leave you thinking (WHAT?!).
Oh, did I mention that this phone is waterproof?! This was a major selling point for me considering one of my previous phones (the Samsung Galaxy S3) was accidentally dropped into a sanitation bucket at work by another co-worker. Since the airtight back cover protects from water, it also boasts protecting from dust as well. Yay! I can’t get enough of this phone. Honestly, I only breaked to sleep since receiving this phone yesterday and of course now, to write this review because I was so awed by the Samsung Galaxy S5.
To me, the Galaxy S5 is worth the price – roughly the same price that I paid for the S3 and with the upgraded features, it’s a deal. The clarity of the graphics and the display are mind-boggling, Added features like the wide variety of new ringtones, the heart-rate monitor, fingerprint scanner, added apps exclusive to the S5, outstanding camera, water-proof and dust-proof features and the fact that I need only the phone to get through my whole day sealed the deal. I can live with the slightly larger size and weight of the phone which was the only real drawback for me. In my book, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is a winner!
