What I love about designers is that they send us on a journey through time. They experiment with looks from different eras and make them modern. Sometimes many of the designs are kept the same, but it shows that style never changes. Many of the styles that were cute then are still cute now. Bottega Veneta is bringing back styles from the 20’s and 30’s and I love how Oscar de la Renta and Dolce & Gabanna are dabbling in Victorian inspired designs. De la Renta always has, but D&G is on board now. I’m loving it.
There was a point when almost every celebrity woman on the red carpet was wearing a dress by Versace or Oscar de la Renta. But now, the name Oscar de la Renta rarely comes up. I can’t remember the last time I heard a famous woman say that she was wearing the designer.
But with this new perfume, I think we are going to hear a lot more buzz about Mr. Oscar. I fell in love with this perfume from the moment I saw the bottle. This bottle is just beautiful. I love almost all perfume bottles that look vintage, so this perfume already had me biased in its favor just because of its beauty, and I’m happy to say that the scent is just as beautiful as the bottle.
Many years ago, my sister bought my mom a bottle of Pleasures (by Estee Lauder) perfume. It was my first time smelling the fragrance, and this reminds me of it. It’s light and floral and smells like mom. It smells like a perfect garden of flowers–sort of like my mom’s gardenia bush. It’s very soft, sophisticated, and reminds me of a successful woman for some reason. It conjures up that kind of image in my head, probably because that’s the kind of woman I want to be one day.
This fragrance is timeless, just like Oscar de la Renta’s designs. It will be gorgeous yesterday, today, and tomorrow. I think this perfume would make a great gift for women, especially mothers. It’s so ironic that this perfume is called Live In Love, because it’s scent reminds me of the most loving person I know–my mother.
