I loved down-turned eyes! They look so youthful and expressive but I can understand why some women would like to lift them. Over time, down-turned eyes can droop and eventually make you appear older. You can’t choose your eye shape but you can implement some makeup techniques that will give you the lift you want. I’m a professional makeup artist and I know how important it is for you to get the look you want. Ready to give it a try?
Start with Smooth Eye Skin
Give your eyes a bright, fresh look by applying a small dab of foundation under your eye. For this, you need a color that slightly lighter than your skin tone. The goal is to hide any circles, creases or dark spots. One sneaky way to do this is to use a dual purpose foundation (the kind that goes on wet or dry) using a damp foundation brush. Press lightly on the skin and then blend it for a perfect finish. Also, apply foundation to the eyelids too. You want the skin to appear smooth and flawless.
The Tool You Need–Eyeliner
Here’s the biggest tool in your eye shaping quest-the eyeliner. You can lift an eye in just a few strokes. Starting at the inner corner, apply the eye liner as closely to the top lashes as you can. Draw from the inside to the outer edge using small, short strokes. When you get to the edge keep going about ¼ and finish with a slight wing up. Now go over the line to soften it using an angled brush and eyeshadow. In this case, (and I rarely suggest it) do go heavier on the liner. You’ll get a sultry look with an uptilt that offsets your natural downturn. I recommend that you leave off the liner on the bottom lash line.
Eye Makeup for Downturned Eyes
For this technique, you need soft eyeshadow for the lid but don’t get too carried away with the sparkle. A touch of sparkle is okay but don’t over do it. Now at the outer edges, you should go darker. I suggest sticking with neutral colors. This will give the eyes definition without making them look puffy. Now curl the lashes to open them! I center the lashes on the curler and hold it in place for 10 seconds or more. Finish with two coats of mascara, allowing the coats to dry in between applications.
You can’t change the actual shape of your eye, short of surgery, but makeup tricks can help you create the illusion of different shapes. Have fun playing with makeup!
