Kendall Jenner got a choice seat on the front row at the London Fashion Week next to American Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and Top Shop boss Sir Philip Green on the 16th of February 2014, and walked the runway the next day on her journey up the ladder in the mainstream entertainment industry.
However, Kim Kardashian’s kid sister fluffed what would have been another feather in her cap when she messed up at the Billboard Music Awards on May 6, 2014, while introducing the Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer.
She misread the teleprompter and said, “And now we welcome, one…” Pausing mid-sentence, she continued with “Guys, I’m the worst reader,” and failed to complete naming the band. Fessing up some more later on Twitter, the aspiring model said, “Anndddd as if I wasn’t nervous already!!!”
Here’s a list of other celebs who also had embarrassing public moments.
On February 6 2011, Christina Aguilera performed the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ in a controversial manner at Super Bowl XLV before the Green Bay Packers faced off against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The singer/actress shocked fans when she sang “What so proudly we watch’d at the twilight’s last gleaming,” substituting ‘hail’d’ with ‘watch’d’.
As if that wasn’t enough, the ‘Genie in a Bottle’ singer also jumbled up the fourth line of the anthem with: “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last reaming”, instead of the correct line: “O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming.”
Aguilera, who is Ecuadorian, later apologized: “I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”
In 2004, Idina Menzel won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her role in the Broadway musical ‘Wicked’, and ten years later, she turned up at the Oscars to perform her hit song ‘Let it go’ from the animated movie ‘Frozen’. However, her day in the sun was dampened when actor John Travolta, introduced her as the “wickedly talented, one and only Adele Dazeem.”
Travolta did not correct himself but commented in an email to Movies Now: “I’ve been beating myself up all day. Then I thought…what would Idina Menzel say? She’d say, ‘Let it go, let it go!’ Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!”
Scotty McCreery started the year 2011 well. First he won the 10th season of ‘American Idol’ in May, and his debut studio album ‘Clear as Day’ which was launched on October 9, went straight to the top of the Billboard 200 album charts.
But the following month when he was supposed to consolidate his position in the industry further by performing at the 85thMacy’s Thanksgiving day parade in New York City, the 18-year-old fumbled.
He mistimed the beginning of his hit song ‘The trouble with girls’ and started a few seconds later when the song had already started playing but made up for his error when he sang at the Macy’s Great Tree Lighting at Lenox Square in Atlanta in the evening of the same day.
Later on Twitter, Scotty ignored the daytime thanksgiving flub and concentrated on the evening show: “Great time at the show tonight for Macy’s in Atlanta! Now time for some thanksgiving grub!”
