Kemetic yoga is unique because it is the indigenous system that was developed in Africa. Kemetic yoga is the style practiced in Egypt, which was once called Kemet all those centuries ago. Kemetic yoga has its roots in Egyptian history and deities. Kemetic yoga is expressed in the artwork and spiritual writings found in the ancient tombs and temples. Kemetic yoga is a system of practice and philosophy based on ancient Egyptian systems of enlightenment and self-development. Kemetic yoga is a method of mysticism. Kemetic yoga was utilized to lead individuals to divine oneness or enlightenment. One just has to look at the writings on the wall of King Seti I to understand the purpose of yoga and meditation. In reality, one can look at most hieroglyphs in ancient Kemet and see that the deities where typically depicted in yoga poses. Practicing Kemetic yoga does not mean that people must associate with the religion, but people should understand that Kemetic yoga practice honors Egyptian deities. These deities include gods and goddesses which are known as Neturu. These Neturu are used so that the mind can conceptualize the cosmic forces, which the Neturu represent, which is integral to the practice of Kemetic yoga.
My goal is to promote the practice of yoga particularly among African Americans and to help people understand Kemetic yoga. Kemetic yoga helps people develop stronger muscles, improved posture, and enhanced flexibility. Another benefit of practicing Kemetic yoga is increased energy. Kemetic yoga movements have been known to assist people who may be dealing with issues like asthma, arthritis, stress, and drug dependence. There are many other well-known types of yoga such as Hatha and Ashtanga, which focus on the practice of deep breathing in conjunction with physical postures, Kemetic yoga differs in that its main focus are the physical postures with less emphasis on mastering breathing. There are many movements, and postures that are incorporated between the various styles of yoga practice, the main difference with Kemetic yoga is that its practice has more to do with directing energy throughout the body. This energy is well known throughout many movement practices and is typically understood to be life energy, such as prana or chi. Kemetic yoga is more than yoga poses, and being flexible. The goal of Kemetic yoga is to develop your mind, body, spirit, and consciousness to a higher-level through the practice of discipline.
