With our lifestyle, most everyone has at least one family member living more than a hundred miles way. Some even have family members who live half a world away. I have family members in three states and they live north and south of the Mason-Dickson line. https://www.everydayfamily.com
So how do we keep in touch?
I have, what I call, “My good morning” list. It is a list of everyone I am close to. Most of the people on the list are family members and the other people are close friends. The first thing I do each morning after I pour my first cup of coffee is get my tablet and send each one a “good morning I love you, have a great day.” I get on Facebook and read all the posting from family and friends and I hit “like” on the post I like, “comment” on the posts I feel need a short comment and “share” the posts I think others would enjoy. I do not share pictures of people and never of children on Facebook.
It is nice to get cards in the mail but, in this day and age we do a lot of texing. The nice thing about texting is the receiver can see what is on your mind in real time. I feel that is very important. Because four or five days down the road when the letter gets to the person, it is old news. If there is a problem that I or the person needs help with texing can usually take care of it.Texing is just as personal as a hand written letter. I usually send a card and follow up with a “happy birthday” text on the actual day.
Skype is another way to keep in touch. It is a way to call family and friends through the computer or tablet. It does not cost a lot and you can call anywhere in the world for pennies a month. The really nice thing is you see the person you are talking to. This is great for children because they can talk, show the stuff they are doing in school. Facebook is another way to do this. https://www.supportforstepdads.com
Facebook and blogging:
Both Facebook and blogging are great tools to use to keep in touch. Blogging is better because you have more control over who can and cannot read the posting. You can create a family blog just for family members. It really is very easy now. The short and long of keeping in touch is to do whatever works for your family. https://www.wikiHow.com
