Not only does the month of April hold the promise of Spring, flowers, and warmer weather, but each year it also dedicates its 22nd day to the celebration and preservation of our magnificent planet. The day I’m referring to is Earth Day. And as far as the city of Akron is concerned, this is a not a holiday of sedentary observation, but of action. Countless activities, festivals, and parties are commencing all over Akron this month, and even spilling over into the month of May. Interested in participating? Consider the following events:
Party for the Planet! Hosted by the Akron Zoo – From 11:00am – 4:00pm on April 26th, the Akron Zoo will be hosting an Earth Day party. Attendees will be educated on our planet and ways to protect the environment. Crafts, activities, animal encounters, and vendor giveaways will be included in this celebration, along with a special visit from zoo mascot, Conrad Conservation! Daily zoo admission rates apply.
Earth Day Family Day at the Akron Art Museum – On Saturday, April 26th, from noon to 4:00pm visit the Akron Art Museum for a family day celebrating Earth Day! This afternoon will be spent making art, listening to interactive music, watching films and participating in museum tours and live performances. Tots, teens, and adults alike can be sure to find themselves thoroughly entertained during this event. Activities are free for families, free admission for children.
EarthFest 2014! at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds – Sunday April 13th is the 25th annual EarthFest. This is Ohio’s largest environmental education event and the longest running earth day celebration in the United States. Join us from 10:00am – 5:00pm to celebrate the Year of Zero Waste. This festival will feature 250 exhibits with 9 sustainability areas. Among all the activities for attendees to enjoy will be healthy food from local farmers and microbrews, biodiesel powered rides, eco-activities, and all day entertainment and music. Admission: $4.00 for kids ages 2-11, $8.00 for all ages 12 and up.
7th Annual Green & Clean Day at Lock 3 – The Lock 3 is the place to be on Friday May 2nd. From 9:00am – 4:00pm downtown Akron becomes a sea of green as teams of local volunteers come together to restore the vibrancy and value of the city. Green & Clean Day is a part of Keep Akron Beautiful’s Clean Up Akron Week/Great American Cleanup™. Interested in volunteering? Register here !
