All of my life I have been relaxing my hair with the Dark and Lovely relaxer kit and I have never been too fond of the product. Each time that I would relax my hair, which would be between 4 – 6 weeks, it would become thinner. Desperate to save my hair, I decided to switch relaxing kits thinking that the issue lied solely on the brand. I tried Organix Root Stimulator and African Pride and they all executed the same thing.
Finally, I conducted a research and ascertained that the relaxer may be too strong for my hair, causing it to thin. I immediately began to search for other products I could use as a substitution because I knew that I didn’t want to go natural. That’s when I encountered a texturizer . Of course I was familiar with the texturizers , but I have never used one. I thought I may go for a children’s product so that it wouldn’t be harsh on my hair. I went to a local dollar store and encountered the texturizer “Just for Me”. I remember using the relaxer kit when I was a child and it worked really well. Therefore, I knew that the texturizer would have to be a great product as well.
I purchased it and subsequently applied the “Just for Me” texturizer in my hair and to my astonishment, I loved it! For those of you who are unfamiliar with what a texturizer is, it is a chemical that softens African American hair – natural hair to be precise. It doesn’t permanently straighten the hair like a relaxer would – it doesn’t straighten the hair at for that matter. It only softens hair that would normally be difficult to management .
Upon using “Just for Me” texturizer , it made my hair softer than ever before, which is something that I had never experienced. I was only able to obtain soft hair if I had applied a deep conditioner or co-wash my hair because the relaxers were so strong that it stripped my hair of its natural oils, causing it to harden and become brittle. Of course, it is imperative that you apply a deep conditioner after every relaxer or texturizer to ensure that your hair isn’t striped of its natural oils but it isn’t required – it is only a preference.
Once I applied a deep conditioner to my hair for approximately 30 minutes, my hair was extremely soft. Not only was it soft for a week, but it was soft for more than two months. The “Just for Me” product is a great texturizer for adults who are trying to find which texturizer is right for them. Although I loved the product, I am uncertain if I want to continue using it because it is for children. I may switch products upon using it for three or four more times. But who knows, I may adhere to it.
