You’ll hear roars of delight when you plan a kids’ jungle birthday party. Use jungle-related ideas for all aspects of the party details, from the invitations to the games.
Start with the invitations. They’ll set the stage and let the guests know what type of theme you’re planning. A giant paw print cut from card stock is one option. Write the party info around the edge of the paw. Animal print is another option. For example, cut out zebra stripes or leopard spots and glue them to card stock. Write the party details on the patterns.
Next you need to transform the party area into a jungle. Start with vines to make the kids feel like they’re in the jungle. You can buy artificial vines in the floral section. Or you can make your own. Cut out large leaves from construction paper. Twist long strips of brown butcher paper to make the vines. Tape the leaves onto the vines.
Trees also help create the look of the jungle. Use a large cardboard tube as the tree trunk. Cut large leaves from green paper to hang from the top of the tree.
You’ll also want some jungle animals to set the jungle tone. Use your child’s stuffed animals as an easy option. You can also cut out jungle animal shapes from poster board. Paint them and hang them around the room.
Incorporate the jungle theme into the games and activities to keep the kids entertained. One easy option is jungle charades. Have the kids act out different jungle animals for their teammates to guess. You can either provide the animal names or let the kids make them up as they go.
Another game option is a jungle relay. Have a jungle explorer costume for each team. Have one child from each team put on the costume and run down the field around a cone and back. The player passes on the jungle explorer costume to the next player.
If you want a calm activity, have the kids make jungle animal masks. Start with circles of poster board. Let the kids cut out paper to make ears and other features of the animals. Let them wear the masks to channel their inner beasts.
Another option is to have some animal and jungle explorer costumes on hand. Let the kids dress up for pretend play. Or invite the kids to come dressed as their favorite jungle animals and put on a jungle animal parade through the party area.
