Joe and the Cement Truck (Hint: Joe’s a Jerk)
Funny urban legend stories
Mary and Joe Harrigan were married on May 5, 1962 just outside of Clifton, New Jersey. Joe worked in construction – driving a cement truck. He was a rough and ready kind of guy. It was “his way or the highway”. Mary worked in a restaurant and Joe was resentful that she made more from tips than he got delivering cement.
Mary was the polar opposite of Joe. First of all, she was a real looker – tall, beautiful and cheery. And she was fun to be around – the room brightened when she walked in. Everyone liked her. She had many “regulars” at her work who tipped very nicely.
And this REALLY annoyed Joe. He got grumpier and grumpier.
One day Joe was delivering cement to a jobsite near his house. As he passed his house he saw a shiny Cadillac convertible in his driveway. And even worse, he saw a handsome man sitting in it talking to Mary. He was furious – so angry that he could hardly see straight. He decided he was going to fix this problem.
He went on and delivered the cement to the job but only dumped half of a truck’s load – keeping the other half for a “special project” he had just thought up. Then he drove back by his house. It was time to teach that cheating wife and her boyfriend a lesson.
When he got to the house, he backed the cement truck up to the convertible and dumped the remaining cement into the inside of the Cadillac. The car sunk down to the axles and the tires went flat. Then he drove on to work unnoticed.
That night he came home and acted like he didn’t know a thing. He saw the car there with the cement hardened inside. Joe asked Mary whose car was in the driveway.
Mary was in tears. She balled out, “It’s yours, I saved all my tips and bought it for your birthday but when I went out and checked on it someone had come by and filled it with cement.”
Joe didn’t end up teaching anyone a lesson. Joe’s a jerk.
