Last month, Katherine Heigl went to a Duane Reade store just to shop. Unfortunately, now, she is suing them for a whopping $6 million dollars. Read the following for details:
What Is All The Buzz About?
It all started when the Duane Reade Twitter account posted a link to a JustJared.com story. It was about Heigl signing with a new management agency. It featured a photo of Katherine carrying two Duane Reade plastic bags. She appeared to be leaving one of its store. They tweeted the photo of her shopping there. The tweet was, “Love a quick #DuaneReade run? Even @Katherine Heigl can’t resist shopping #NYC’s favorite drugstore?” For now, the post is still live.
Duane Reade also posted the photo on Facebook. The caption was similar to the tweet on Twitter. The photo had the caption, “Don’t you just love a quick #DuaneReade run? Even Katherine Heigl can’t resist shopping at #NYC’s most convenient drugstore!”
Why Is She Suing?
Katherine is suing them for tweeting a picture of her shopping there. The images were misappropriated. Without her consent, they were used for commercial advertising and for purposes of trade. After the lawsuit was filed, Duane Reade stripped out all evidence of the captions. This is evidence it was done knowingly and willfully.
What Is The Status Of The Case?
The case is still pending. A spokesman for Duane Reade said the company is not commenting on pending litigation. Its lawyers haven’t filed a response in court.
What Will She Do With The Money?
If she wins, she will donate the money to her charity. It was created in memory of her brother, who died in a car crash.
