(Warning: this theory has an overall dark and adultish story, much of it will reference adult actions. Viewer discretion is advised)
Have you ever wondered if your favorite games actually had a secret message or action? This week I have looked into Earthbound to see what was the deal with Giygas, the final boss, isabout.
Is Giygas a fetus and Ness is doing an “alien abortion”, or is it just a bunch of baloney?
Discoveries About This Theory:
Before going too far into this story, the origin of the idea must be told. When Shigesato Itoi was a child, he accidentally walked into the wrong theater, confusing a lovemaking scene that becomes a murder and rape from the 1957 adult movie “The Military Policeman and the Dismembered Beauty” (憲兵とバラバラ死美人 “Kenpei to Barabara Shibijin“). That is why some of Giygas’s dialogue is awkward, such as “It hurts”, referencing the event horrifying Itoi.
Another reason for this theory is that the entrance to the Cave of the Past somewhat references a cervix, and the inside of the cave would be the veins in the reproductive organs. The “veins” on the floor in the cave connect to Giygas, like the umbilical cord for humans.
Lastly, the biggest reason for this urban legend is that the form of Gigas of when he is a red skull with a black backdrop, is that if the black is shaded in on the skull it perfectly resembles a fetus in the womb.
Therefore, the legend of Giygas being a fetus still rages on. I personally do not believe this his theory myself, and Shigesato Ito announced that this is not true when Mother 1+2 was made.
Enjoyed the theory? Once again it was fun to search up and study this legend about one of my favorite video games. Please email me for any ideas of future reviews or theories that you would want me to write.
