A few feet from the famous Whisky A Go Go is a famous restaurant in it’s own right. The Rainbow Bar and Grill has been serving locals, famous musicians, and stars for 42 years. The restaurant has a longer history than that. It was once known as the Villa Nova and was a local favorite in the 50’s. Can culinary gold be found at this end of The Rainbow Bar and Grill.
Some may warn not to eat the lentil soup. It’s rumored that this was the very item that John Belushi consumed before his death. All rumors aside, The Rainbow Bar and Grill is a historic building that hosts a full restaurant, full bar, dance floor, and DJ. The decor is a mixture of Italian red booths and dark wood. Pictures of musicians and celebrities line the walls of the restaurant and upper bar.
How is the food at this Hollywood California restaurant? The dinner menu is for the rich and famous of Hollywood. Most items start at the price tag of $9. Normally, the lunch menu is a better choice on the budget but that is not the case. Day or night, a couple will walk out of this location with at least a $30 tab. So is the Shrimp salad, Cheeseburgers, and Philly Cheese Steaks worth the tab? Or are clients really paying for location, location, location?
Sadly customers and paying for friendly customer service, ambiance, Hollywood history, and the Sunset Boulevard location. The shrimp and avocado salad looked like the prep chef has cut up some wedges of lettuce and tossed them on the plate. There was no form of inspired presentation. Several hours after eating the shrimp, I felt ill. All in all do not expect inspiration on a plate. Expect reasonable cooked food with an inflated price tag.
