People say that change is the BEST thing that can happen. Is that really true? Deep inside do you needlessly fear change? Is change the ‘best’ thing that can happen to you? Yes, no, and sometimes not. Yes, willful change is exciting, a new job, new wardrobe, new car and maybe even a new love in your life? These can be wonderful changes, if you want them? But, what if you are forced to make changes in your life that don’t make you happy? Or worse, you are forced to make changes that compromise your character. I think anyone would agree that these kinds of changes are more harmful than helpful.
But what about making changes that seemingly are beneficial at first, but turn out to be not good for you later on down the road? Leaving a job, for example, has been compared to leaving a relationship. Changing jobs on the basis of making more money sounds good, although many people make this change faster than they spent time considering the changes it would cause in their life, and in the peoples’ lives around them. However, sometimes choosing not to change can be ‘the best that can happen’. As exciting as change can be, some people find contentment and peace from living a life of few changes. And, that’s ok.
Are people afraid of change? Most people are. Changing jobs and relationships can be an extremely scary experience, or they can be completely wonderful life changing events. Although change will eventually occur in all things, as nothing will remain the same forever, people need to accept this fact and focus on directing change in their lives in a positive way, instead of trying to resist or force change in an unnatural way. Is change the BEST thing that can happen to you? It can be.
