BB Cream, or beauty balm cream, went from trend to a staple in the beauty aisle from low end to high end. They often tout claims of perfecting your skin, moisturizing and making you look younger. While there are a lot of these buzzwords being passed around, there is very little information on what BB cream is, how it works, and if it’s right for you. As a beauty and fashion expert, follow my guide to discover what BB cream is and how it could add to your beauty routine.
What is BB Cream?
BB Cream is an all in one product that is intended to shorten your beauty routine while making your skin healthier. They often contain vitamins that are essential to good skin, like vitamins A and E. They also contain moisturizers that are found in many skin creams. They usually contain a sunblock with at least 15 SPF, and often have tint in them that acts like a foundation. For women who are looking to improve their skin health using BB cream on a consistent basis can help them achieve their goals. However, their moisturizers aren’t very heavy and they don’t contain any products that can attack acne. They are usually very light coverage and won’t provide a foundation like finish without the use of a concealer underneath.
How Do You Use It?
BB cream can be applied much like any other lotion or skin product. I start my BB cream routine after I wash my face. I dab small amounts across my face and work in, adding extra around my dry areas. If your skin is oily, apply small amounts of BB cream so you don’t overload your skin with moisturizer. I recommend not using a BB cream at night, as it does contain other products and isn’t meant as a replacement for a good moisturizer. BB cream can be worn with other products, so apply your concealer and BB cream before starting your foundation.
Is It Right for You?
BB creams are great for anyone trying to improve their skin health but aren’t a cure all product. If your skin is especially oily, BB cream can often make oil problems worse. If your skin is acne prone, it can clog up pores because of the sunblock. Another limitation is that BB creams have a very limited shade selection. As a fair skinned person, I tried many brands before I found one light enough. If you visit any major beauty retailer, an expert can help you find the right shade, but you may pay more for the product as high end brands usually carry better shades. If your skin is very red or you need heavier coverage, try a CC cream, which is similar to a BB cream but has much more pigment and is thicker. Neither product will correct your skin completely nor turn it perfect over night, but they could make your skin better with a great routine.
As with any beauty product, sometimes it can be trial or error if a product is right for you. Even though many may pass BB cream up because it seems trendy, the skin benefits for many people are worth trying it. Start with a less expensive brand or get samples of a product before committing to adding BB cream to your regimen. It could be a product that with a great skincare routine, could help you achieve the skin you’ve always dreamed of.
