The next time you are in India, you may want to head over to New Lucky Restaurant, located in Ahmedabad, where you can dine next to a dead body! Once customers have placed their order, they can sit right next to a raised coffin, and enjoy their meal. To the average Westerner, this may sound a little on the strange side, but it is actually not as bad as it sounds.
The owner of the restaurant believes that dining among the deceased actually brings good luck. It is worth noting that the restaurant has been flourishing. The coffins are from an old cemetery that used to be located in the same exact spot as the restaurant’s location, according to sources.
Every single morning the waiters that work at New Lucky’s clean the coffins, and they also place some flower on them. The flowers are always fresh when the waiters put them on top of the coffins. Also, the locals believe that the coffins contain the follows of a Sufi saint from the 16th-century. They believe that the Sufi saint is buried somewhere nearby.
Some may think this is somewhat disrespectful, but the owner of the restaurant does not agree and says that every single morning before the day starts, they pay their respect to the dead.
By now you may be wondering how many graves lay inside of the New Lucky Restaurant, and the answer to that question is there are around a dozen. The guests are not allowed to touch or damage the coffins, which are sealed off by iron grills. The restaurant has been around for a very long time. In matter of fact it has been open for decades now, and it is popular among the locals and tourist alike. The coffins are not the only thing that keeps customers coming back, as the food is also of good quality.
