We have all heard commercials over the years encouraging us to drink milk and give our families several servings of milk a day in order to have strong bones and be healthy. Recently, I have found several reasons to give up dairy products all together to be healthier. If you suffer from any of these symptoms you may want to consider giving up milk and dairy too. Some common symptoms linked to eating dairy products include excessive mucus, respiratory problems, digestive problems, joint pain, and even skin rashes and acne (Bajaj, Web).
Ulcers and Pneumonia
As a child I had bleeding ulcers. Medicine and other things did not improve my ulcers over time. Eventually my mother took me to an allergy specialist who determined it was an allergy to milk. Immediately we removed all dairy from my diet and I improved right away. As an adult I begin having dairy products once again. Since I have used them sparingly, I have not had any more ulcers. I have had many other symptoms from the list above over the years. As an adult I have had issues with gas, bloating, and occasional diarrhea.
Recently it was brought to my attention that dairy products has been linked to respiratory problems. As a child before removing dairy from my diet I had pneumonia at least three times a year and had to be hospitalized. After removing it I did not have one case of it. As an adult after re-entering dairy into my diet I have bronchitis or pneumonia at least once a year. I also suffer from asthma.
Skin Rashes and Acne
In my teenage years after giving up dairy I had an almost perfect complexion during the time most kids are plagued with persistent acne. As an adult, I suffer frequently with rashes and occasional acne.
Joint pain has been linked to dairy products. As a child I would cry myself to sleep many nights with leg pain. I did not have any problems as a teenager with leg pain. As an adult I have severe pain in the joints, especially my knees, hips, shoulders, and hands. If giving up dairy again could improve the severity of the pain in my joints that alone will be worth giving it up permanently.
These are the main reasons I will be giving up dairy. It should help me to have a better and healthier life.
