If evolution has thought us one thing, it is survival and survival encompasses one golden rule, “You adapt or you die “.But Generations of social ad aptation has left mankind in a very ambiguous position.
Unlike other animals, humans (Social animals) possess a higher level of IQ which grants the ability to delude themselves ,into an inspirational perception on life and its purpose, but all the while satisfying his primal instincts and animalistic desires .In a way , perfectly justifying the word ” Social animal ” .
While the animalistic characteristics are inherent; the socially acceptable paradigm must be self-developed on the basis of observation and experience. It isn’t the animalistic instinct that teaches to be good/fair, to gain society’s acceptance in return.
It is our highly gifted IQ that adapts us according to our awareness.
There isn’t any dusty book with, “Ten steps to your personality “, across its cover.
It is us and adaptation that leads to a fully formed personality.
Statement: He is a funny man
Q: Why is he a funny man?
A: Because he was aware that humor fetches, societies acceptance and admiration .He adapted accordingly.
Statement: She is a mean person
Q: Why is she a mean person?
A: Because she was made aware, that if you are a nice person you would be fated to misery and manipulation. She did what generations of human race had done, she adapted.
So in summary, we are all essentially boiled down to a component of animalistic instinct (Which is quite similar) and our adaptation pattern (Which is dependent on topics ranging from worldly perceptions to childhood issues).
Hence individually, we are alloys made of 2 ingredients but vastly differing in the ratio of quantities. With this in mind, the definition of humanity (The condition of being human), raises a whole new question, in what ratio?
