It’s that time of year again. Time to get rid of the old stuff and make room for the new. Or perhaps just clean up the old stuff. Whatever you decide to do with your yard now is the time decide what day you are going to do it. Once you pick the day, take a look at the list below to help.
Survey the yard
Start by walking around the yard and taking a survey of what needs to be done. If you notice some plants or bushes that need to be replaced you can purchase these items before your big cleaning day. This includes any stones or walkways that need to be repaired.
Set aside the whole day
It is certainly going to take plenty of time for you to get you yard summer ready. So I have often found it best to set aside the entire day. Get an early start and be sure to take plenty of breaks when needed. Also make sure that you have plenty of water even if you don’t feel hot. If you don’t work at keeping your energy level up it will end up taking you longer than a day to clean up.
Cut back the greenery
Next you want to focus on cutting the grass, pulling weeds, removing dead bushes, trees, or tree limbs. In some cases you may have an entire tree that has died and needs to be removed. Make a note of it and call a professional to do this on another day. But make sure that this person knows the laws in your town to avoid penalties. Try to focus on anything in the yard that looks like it died. Remember this is just the spring cleanup, you can focus on adding new bushes or plants another day.
Junk and debris
Make sure to get rid of any old furniture that can no longer be used. These items just end up becoming an eyesore. Unless you are able to fix it up it may be best to put it out on the curb. Don’t worry about fixing it up on your cleaning day. Instead just set it aside for another days project. Place the object in the location you would like it to stay.
Add a fence, patch a fence
If you have a fence around your yard check it to see if there are any holes or weak spots. If its completely damaged add this to your list of things that needs to be replaced. Then remove the old fence if you can and prepare the area for the new fence. If your fence is still in good shape it may just need a paint job which can easily be done on your cleaning day.
