Basic Troubleshooting steps:
Some troubles are not worthy of a SMC reset. So before you decide to SMC (Systems Management Controller) reset your system, it is best to initially try some basic troubleshooting options which are available. Prior to deciding to attempt a Systems Management Controller reset, initially try to force close the unresponsive programs. To force close the unresponsive programs, press Option+Command+Escape. After force closing the unresponsive app, select the Apple menu, then select ‘Sleep’. After making your Mac go to sleep, wake it up by pressing a key. After your Mac awakens, click Apple menu and then select ‘Restart’ to restart your system. In case your Mac provides you with trouble in restarting through Apple menu, then pressing and holding power button for some time can perform the task. Systems Management Controller (SMC) Reset:
Basic troubleshooting options may not be the solution to your problems. Some problems which needs SMC reset to be solved are:
- Indicator lights (including button lights, back and battery lights, etc.) aren’t properly working. Unresponsiveness of Power Button. Improper battery charging. The fans running on full speed even if your device is not hot and is well ventilated.Once your Mac goes down to sleep or shuts itself down suddenly and unexpectedly, with no obvious reason.If you’re facing any of these mentioned problems, then SMC reset could be the only solution.
SMC Reset with Removable Battery:
- Should your Mac has a removable battery, then just shut down your system and unplug the power cord. Then cautiously, from the back of your device, remove the battery. After taking out the battery, press and hold power button for a while. After releasing the power button, reinstall the battery inside your device and then turn on your system.
SMC Reset with Battery Attached: If you use a slim Mac, then you cannot easily remove your battery. Follow these steps if you can’t remove battery:
- Shut down your system. Plug the power source and power cord into the Mac. Press and then release all of these keys together: Control+Left Shift+Option keys and Power Button. After releasing the keys altogether, turn on your laptop.
