To feel beautiful is something that almost all women desire, regardless of how old they are. However, we all seem to get to that point where we can no longer keep up with the demands of fighting the signs of our age; and thus, we succumb to letting ourselves go. After all, when was the last time you saw an attractive 80 year old?
Well, what if I told you that you could preserve your beauty in the future just by doing specific things today? It seems pretty obvious really, that is until you notice that there are still a lot of folks who don’t understand just how essential their present habits are to their eventual appearance. Just take those bronzed hotties standing outside the tanning bed for instance.
Between informative articles, instructive videos, bad advice, and courage there is a real solution to keeping (and even improving) your appearance. However, preserving your beauty for the long run is not achieved by sipping the waters of some secret fountain of youth; indeed you will get old someday. Successful preventative maintenance is, instead, simply a collection of good habits, handy tricks, and useful tips that all work together to help you become the best looking granny in the nursing home.
The human body is made out of a large percentage of water, which means that it only makes sense for you to replenish yourself as much as possible. We all know about the essentials drinking lots of water for internal health, but not everyone understands how essential moisture is to keeping skin supple as well. Since your skin is the largest organ on your body, taking care of it becomes vital when you are trying to maintain your splendor. Waiting to moisturize your skin until you are too old or too arthritis-ridden to pick up a bottle of lotion is not exactly a sign of the wise or a quality of the beautiful.
Taking care of your skin means more than just slapping on some lotion though. For starters, you have to pay close attention to your face, neck, and hands because those areas are some of the first places to show your true age. Use something that is fortified with vitamin E, cocoa butter, or vitamin A (retinol) if you can. Oh, and find something that is free of fragrances too so you don’t experience and unwanted breakouts or allergic reactions. I personally use Philosophy Amazing Grace Firming Body Emulsion on my entire body (minus my face). It’s a little on the expensive side if you’re going to use it multiple times a day, but the cost is worth it in the end when you take a look at your behind.
If you talk to an elderly woman you might hear her say that she wished she would have used anti-aging cream before she ever needed it. That might be some of the best advice you ever hear in regards to your appearance. You don’t have to go out and buy a bunch of expensive creams to erase deep wrinkles, you just have to get proactive about your skin before you see a problem. I like to use the ANEW anti-aging line myself. I feel as though it makes my complexion look like an edited photograph when I do.
Aside from using anti-aging creams you can also take certain vitamins like E, C, and K to keep things for getting out of hand too soon. Try to get your hands on some antioxidants as well, especially if you smoke cigarettes or tan your skin. These will help repair any of the damages that can be seen on your face while promoting a more youthful complexion. Remember to apply whatever you put on your face to your neck as well, since these two places tend to age at the same rate and nobody wants to be the lady with the turkey neck.
You might not think so, but your present posture is going to play a huge role in your future appearance. Slouching a lot now may cause you to look and feel older than you really are, and it can tell the world that you are defeated when you really are not. Instead, take some pride in the way you sit, stand, and walk and you likely will look and feel younger and more energetic. In fact, incorrect posture can even mess up your metabolism. Despite your best effort to preserve your beauty in the long run, you might end up with bigger problems if you don’t correct your posture now.
To have great posture, you need to put your shoulders back, suck your tummy in, and lift your chin slightly. It might be a little unnatural feeling at first but don’t worry. Your older self will thank you later and your younger self will be more easily noticed. If you’re not sure how to improve your posture, let the Mayo Clinic help you figure it out.
You are what you eat, right? Well, if you’re eating foods that are bad for you now then you can only expect to see the consequences of those decisions later on down the road, right? Did you know that there are certain foods that actually fight the signs of aging? Eating plenty of greens, whole grains, and berries is a great habit to get into. Changing how you eat today could drastically change your future, both in the way you look and in the way your body functions (or doesn’t). You might miss out on those favorites of yours from time to time, but the payout is much greater than the sacrifice.
It’s time to think about the effects of your chosen drinks on your appearance as well. Alcohol is fun but it does nothing to make or keep you looking good. If you want stay beautiful for longer, drink only purified water, juice, milk, or tea. Have no more coffee or soda ever and limit your liquor intake significantly. Those drinks wreak havoc on your figure, ruin your complexion, transform your metabolic rate, and do a number on your internal organs. Instead, choose natural drinks that are easily digestible and fortified with vitamins. Not only will you look great, you will feel a lot better too.
Why do most old ladies have that old woman afro? Is it because they got sick of dealing with their hair or is it because they didn’t take good enough care of it while they were young? If it was the latter, then you should learn from their mistakes. Take biotin to help improve the health of your skin, nails, and hair. Most of the time biotin is not included in a multivitamin, so you might have to take it separately. Either way, it’s a good idea to start worrying about your hair health now rather than fixing problems in the future.
Your smile is one of the first things people notice on you. Eventually you might have to wear dentures but that doesn’t have to be today. Aside from brushing and flossing regularly, you should be taking care of your complete oral health. Receding gums, teeth stains, and loose fillings can be headaches now; just wait until bad oral hygiene comes back to bite you when you’re old. As your body inevitably starts to fall apart, at least give yourself the ability to smile about it.
