The music industry is a tough business. There are literally millions of people who are chasing the same dream as you. So how do you market your music? It all starts off with good promotion.
Now I bet you are wondering how do you promote your music. Promoting your music is not that easy. It takes a lot hard work and dedication. First things first, make your song, mixtape, or album. Then you need to promote. There are different ways to promote. But a proven way to promote your music is posting on social media sites.
Sites such as Facebook, Myspace, and twitter are the best sites to market your music on. I say this because there are plenty of people on these sites. People of all ages. From teens to adults; even though the teens over populate the adults. This actually is a good thing because everyone loves music but music’s number one listeners are teens. It does not matter the genre of the music, teens nowadays like any type of music. Myspace currently is almost strictly for music but it is still a social media site.
Another way to market your music is YouTube. Hundreds of artists have use this site to promote their music. YouTube is a video sharing and viewing website that shows every type of video. You don’t even need a professional music video to post. You can post a low budget music video that you recorded with your cell phone. You can post a video with just a slideshow of pictures and your music playing in the background. This is how many of artists achieved their fame. Chief Keef recorded a homemade video with his friends at his house while he was on house arrest. That video has of five hundred thousand views. Teen Idol Justin Bieber has videos as a child playing the guitar. Look at the success this young man has today.
A new method of marketing that I found quite appealing is Tunecore. With Tunecore they offer promotion services and will post your music on iTunes and other streaming and buying sites. The best thing about this is you can get paid for your songs, albums, ringtones, and even streaming. Thats right you can get paid for someone even listening to your music. If they listen to only 13 seconds of your song you get paid. Tunecore also offers discounts if you join their newsletter. Also they will put your song on Jango Radio. In addition, they give you free articles on how to better your marketing/ promotion skills.
There is also an awkward but proven method for marketing and promoting. This method is called forum posting. Horror-core artist Tyler The Creator used this method to get his fame and fortune. Basically he went to about every blog site, music forum, and hip hop page and posted a link to his music in the comments or where ever he could find a space to write a review. There a thousands of blog sites and forums to go to. Just find the one that fits your genre and promote your link and make your name a brand.
