Why is Sangria the perfect summer refresher?
Sangria come to us from Spain and Portugal but despite a long history, there really isn’t a specific recipe. There are labeling laws that restrict the use of Sangria to those made in Spain or Portugal, but as far as making your own Sangria, it’s up to your tastes and imagination. Sangria is perfect for summer because you can make it as light or as heavy as you desire based on the fruits and juices, and wine varietals. Even in Spain, every bar may have its own version-but you may be drinking something different.! Tinto de verano is like a lazy imitation-red wine and sweet soda water. Packing in the fruits of your choice -that’s Sangria.
Does the quality of the spirit matter when you’re blending other ingredients?
The quality of the spirit always matters. Different spirits all have very different flavor profiles based on the process in which they are made, barrels, water source, etc. Wines especially are extremely different based on region, weather, season, etc. Mixology is not whipping together drinks; there’s a science to it. Good mixologists are adamant about getting the exact amounts-just a spoonful off could make it taste entirely different. Ciroc has Mixology events at which trendsetters learn to make these fabulous concoctions. The mixologists on hand do their best to guide them through the process, but some attempts miss the spot, I’ll have to say. Skimping on Simple Syrup or not enough bitters makes a huge difference in the finished result.
What are qualities that people should pay attention to when drinking Sangria?
Freshness always is #1 for me. Does each sip make you want another one? Because a great Sangria does. The drink should also be easy to sip and swallow.
Sangria is very simple to make at home. What are some Must Do tips when making Sangria?
-Know what fruits are in season, and base your wines and spirits on seasonal fruit. If mangos are not in season, don’t try to force it.
When you are preparing your Sangria, first add a flavored Vodka like CÎROC Peach to your fruit for a few hours to draw out the flavor.
Many are familiar with Sangria made with chopped fruit and red wine. Why would premium vodkas like Ciroc be a perfect base for Sangria?
I always use vodka in my sangrias. You especially want to use a premium Vodka like Ciroc because it’s made from grapes, not potatoes like some other vodkas. That adds that boozy element without the heaviness that red wines give. These premium flavored vodkas are also unique when creating more exotic sangrias such as our a Coconut Sangria with Ciroc Coocnu and White Rum or a Peach Sangra with Ciroc Peach and Hennesy. Sangria in the summer-isn’t that the best that life has to offer?
