Obesity has become a huge problem. One in three adults are obese in America. Obesity is a little different than being overweight. A person who is overweight simply weighs more than he or she should for their height according to the charts. Being overweight could be due to being muscular, or bone structure. An obese person is one who has an excess amount of body fat. An over weight person has a BMI, or body mass index, of 25 and 29.9. An obese persons BMI is 30 or above, according to The Center of Disease Control and Prevention website.
There are several causes of obesity. Sometimes genetics play a role but more often than not the causes are learned. Most obese people come from obese parents. As children they grow up watching their parents eating habits. If an obese parent eats when stressed, sad or lonely the child will learn to do the same. If the parent is rarely active the child will grow up to be inactive as well.
Obesity does not happen over night. It takes years for the excess of body fat to develop. If not dealt with obesity can cause death. Obesity occurs when a person consumes too many calories per day and is not active enough to burn them all off. It’s not always about what types of foods are consumed. It about how much food is consumed.
The cure for obesity is to make healthy choices. If you or someone you know is obese know that it can be cured. You or your loved one can lose weight. You or your loved one can be thinner.
The first step to being thinner is to really want to lose the weight. It has to be a decision that you are committed to with all of your heart and all of your soul. The second step to losing weight is to determine the cause of your over eating. Does it fill a void? Does it make you feel better? If the answer is yes then take a second to go look in the mirror or to step on the bathroom scale. Is it really making you better? Is the food really making you feel good? No. It’s actually ruining your body.
Food is fuel not love. When you come to realize this fact you can begin your weight loss journey. The body needs food for energy, for health. The mind does not need food. The voids, the feelings must be dealt with in other ways.
Once this is learned the amount of food consumed goes way down. Once a person is taking in less calories the weight will begin to come off. Once the weight loss begins the person will be able to become more active. Activity is the a very important part in becoming thinner.
With less calories being consumed and more calories being burned off through activity you can easily lose weight. Set a goal for yourself. Stick to it. Creating new habits and routines may not be easy at first but day by day if you stick to it you will reach your goals.
