How many times have you taken your child to the park? After all those trips, the activity may start to seem redundant or boring for you. Here are some ways to make park play time enjoyable and memorable for you and your kids.
Get Off the Bench
The last thing you want to do after a busy day is climb ladders or squeeze into slides made for small people. But if you normally sit on the bench, getting up to play will surprise your child and make the trip special. You may find that playing on the park equipment is more fun than you realize. Encourage your child’s imagination by playing pretend at the park. Imagine that the play equipment is a space ship, for example.
Switch It Up
Visiting the same park every time gets boring quickly. Instead of always going to the park closest to your home, try out some new play spots. Make a list of all the parks in your area and check them off as you visit them. You can compare all of the options and maybe even find some new favorites.
Make It a Day
Do you normally go to the park for just a short time? Pack a bag and stay for the day. Pack a picnic and plenty of snacks and drinks to get you through the day. Bring extra play equipment that will keep the kids busy. Ideas include balls, baseball bats, kites and jump ropes. If you can fit them into the car or if the park is within walking distance, take along bikes or scooters. Most parks have sidewalks or walking paths nearby where your kids can ride.
Make It a Party
Don’t let others miss out on the fun. The next time you head to the park, turn it into a play date. Invite several friends or family members. Make sure to invite other kids if possible so your kids have more playmates to choose from. Don’t forget to take lots of pictures to capture the fun moments at the park.
