Wreaths can be made in countless themes and colors, and some are easier to create than others. Potpourri makes it extremely easy to create scented decor for a wall or a door. High-quality mixtures are ideal since they contain everything from gorgeous dried flowers to unique additions such as knotted pieces of rope. Look for a variety that does not contain wood shavings, and use it to make a unique wreath to decorate your home. Just about everything that you need can be found in a mixture that includes fragrant pods, blooms, small decorative orbs and more.
To make a potpourri wreath you will need a foam form in a size of your choice, high-quality dried pods, blooms and other fragrant items, colored duct tape, a hot glue gun, glue sticks and a ten-inch piece of wire for hanging the finished decoration.
Choose the duct tape color according to the embellishments. If most are light in color, select a dark hue to create contrast. The goal is to create an ideal background for the flower heads, foliage and other dried items.
Begin by wrapping a wire through the center of the wreath and around the top. Twist it in back to create a sturdy loop for hanging. Wrap the colored duct tape around the form until it is fully covered. Be sure to leave the wire loop exposed.
Plug in the glue gun. While it is heating up, separate the bits and pieces of potpourri. Make piles of small, medium and large embellishments. It will be easier to choose just the right pods, blooms and other adornments to create a gorgeous scented wreath.
Attach the largest items first. For example, if your potpourri mix includes dried daisy blooms, space them evenly around the wreath before gluing them in place. Add the medium-sized pieces next using the same method of selection and attachment.
Finish by filling in the remaining open areas with the smallest pieces. If tiny spaces show through, it will not matter with the colored duct tape in place. Add the dried pieces until most of the wreath is covered with the fragrant mixture. The finished wall or door decoration will look gorgeous, and it will smell absolutely amazing.
