Since I have started my internship, I have grown to loathe the dreaded 9 to 5 shift just as much as every other adult in the working/business world. I spend a majority of my time at work squinting at the computer screen and typing away in my little closed off cubicle.
That doesn’t sound exhausting, but trust me, it is. In fact, it is so dry and dull that I find it impossible to keep my eyes open. I have no opportunities to do anything slightly active and get some blood pumping, I don’t get to sit outside and soak up some Vitamin D. Naturally, my eyes began to droop.
Not anymore. After a few weeks of agony, I have determined a few really great tricks that help me looking and feeling fresh and awake.
1. Drink water, not coffee. Trust me; I like coffee just as much as the next person. But it makes me feel gross sometimes, and gives my tummy that extra unpleasant rumble. A cup or two in the morning before 10 is fine, but after that, instead of reaching for more caffeine, replenish with some H20.I wont bore you with the details of why water is amazing because all of you should know that. But keep in mind, water will not only help you feel more awake, but also look more awake as your skin will be hydrated from the inside out.
2. Snack. Many of you might not agree with this, but I believe that two brief snacks during the work day really helps get some energy going. Of course, make sure the snack is healthy and full of nutrients. But a snack a few hours before lunch and a few hours after lunch may really help you maintain your regular level of efficiency and prevent you from feeling drained.
3. Face Refresh Mist. Back in the day, my mother used to always buy me these little Evian Facial Spray bottles. They spray out a little water mist and it really refreshes your face in the same way as splashing cold water on your face does. I bought a ton of these little bottles from Bed, Bath & Beyond for like $1 each and just throw one in my bag when I go to work. Whenever I feel like I need an extra perk, I just spray a little and voila! For those of you concerned about your make up, there are also setting sprays that serve similar purposes. The setting spray refreshes your face and your make up while sealing it to last. My recommendation for setting sprays is NYX Dewy Finish. It’s like $8 at CVS and really gives my face that little glow.
