Makeup powders can be easily broken when dropped, or can even come broken when ordered through the mail. When you accidentally break an eyeshadow or pressed powder pigment, that horrible feeling of helplessness often takes over. Fear no more, because with these few easy steps you can fix them right up!
Gather your materials.
In order to fix a broken pressed eyeshadow or powder, you will need a few tools. Make sure you have rubbing alcohol, an eye dropper, a small metal spatula or similar tool, and tissues, as well as your broken makeup product.
Break up the product.
This may seem like the opposite of a solution, but although your product probably broke into large chunks, it is important to break it up further into a loose powder. Use your metal tool to carefully poke at the power and break it up until the pieces are very fine and loose.
Apply rubbing alcohol.
Alcohol is going to act as a sort of binding agent in this situation. Take your eyedropper and us it to suck up some of the rubbing alcohol. Next, squeeze out a few droplets into your now loose powder product. How much you use will depend on the size of your product, but you want to make sure the powder is fully covered in the alcohol but not too wet.
Smooth over the product.
Now that the powder is covered in alcohol, gently pat the powder together with the flat side of your metal spatula. You may want to gently smooth it over with your tool or with a finger to make sure the top is smooth and packed. Then take a single tissue, ball up the end of it, and carefully pat the pigment down with the tissue. This will absorb any excess alcohol as well as pack the pigment together more and smooth it out.
Allow the product to set and dry.
Although the pigment may now seem dry, it will still contain a small amount of moisture. Set it out and open for at least a few hours to thoroughly dry and set itself back in place. Avoid using the newly repaired makeup product for at least 24 hours.
Your product may not be perfect in appearance or as good as news, but now it is fixed and ready to use again! Never throw out a broken eyeshadow or powder pigment again!
