When I wake up in the morning, I try to look forward to whatever brings me joy. I make breakfast for my family, take a walk outside, enjoy the sunshine and/or do a number of other things.
1. Have something to look forward to even if things get tough.
Please have something to look forward to each and every day, whether it be to see friends or take a walk by yourself. This would help you to not get into a self pity mode of thinking.
2. Talk to a counselor
If you cannot feel happy from just living day to day, you should see a counselor to get professional help. Please talk to this counselor freely. He or she is there to help you, not criticize you.
3. Take medication
Take medicine as a last resort. Medicine can cause a lot of unwanted side effects so be careful.
4. Combine therapy with medication
If you find that you do well with both therapy and medication, then by all means go for it. The only thing you have to lose is your sadness and depression.
I have been on medication alone and it has helped me feel better. I also tried therapy alone and it has helped me. Now, it’s your turn.
